Celebrating Generous Auckland

ga.jpg

On February 26, at the Generous Auckland dinner with the Auckland Foundation, six people were recognised for their contribution (often quietly) to our city.

Three of the recipients are NC members: Sir Michael Friedlander, Theresa Gattung CNZM, and Ken Whitney. Each recipient received a carved touchstone of Nelson pounamu sitting on a 900 year old rimu base.

Sir Michael Friedlander: For some 60 years, The Friedlander Foundation has been quietly & significantly supporting causes to reduce inequality and give more young people equal opportunity in New Zealand.

Theresa Gattung CNZM has been supporting groups that educate and empower women for most of her adult life. Theresa’s service to women is notable for the diversity of her activities.

Ken Whitney has made a significant contribution to the development of the philanthropic sector in many roles. Ken is also a Trustee of the Chisholm Whitney Charitable Trust.

Lee and Penny Stevens family trust has been going for an astonishing 50 years. Supporters of the arts, education, youth development, migrants and refugees in NZ, and much more, Lee and Penny have made a huge difference to so many.

Tim McMains is passionate about the environment, sustainability, and his Waiheke community. An advocate for the community foundation model, he supports the Auckland Foundation and the US Baton Rouge Area Foundation.

The breadth of what Chris and Jackie Reeve do is hard to capture, supporting many children and young people programmes. They’re not just generous with their money, but also volunteering time.
